曹啟鴻則回應，「我從沒有贊成它進來」，他重述當時受訪的對話是，有許多養豬的友人告訴他，無論如何都要擋住含瘦肉精美豬進口，他回稱一定會維護豬農的權益，「但坦白講，憑我個別的農委會並無能耐抵擋」，沒想到事後引起震撼彈，讓豬農感到害怕，「我對不起他們。」

還未就任即引爆美豬爭議的曹啟鴻，昨赴立法院經濟委員會做業務報告，會議開始前，他接受媒體訪問時即強調，現階段就討論是否開放含瘦肉精美豬還太早，因為美國正值大選時期，且兩位總統候選人還不認為TPP是當務之急，「我們何苦這麼急呢？沒有擋不住的問題。」
